My Dad’s Coins
Overnight, I became the unlikely owner of a coin collection.
I needed to get this off my chest. I inherited my father’s coin collection something like 12 years ago. I knew my father was really into coin collecting, and he always wanted me to get into the hobby of collecting and investing in coin like he did.
After Dad passed away I got the collection. I did buy a few coins to try and add to it however, there was never enough time and money. So I sat on the collection for about ten years. I would periodically check the value of various coins, and much to my surprise they weren’t really going up in value. A few coins did increase in value, however most of them either stayed the same price or actually dropped in value!
My wife finally prevailed upon me to sell the collection. I sold it to American Rarities after getting two other bids. They came in a bit higher and frankly were more enthusiastic about my coins.
So they got it.

I couldn’t be happier. I invested the money into some things that are actually making me some money, and I don’t have to worry about the coins anymore. I kept a few as mementos for myself and the kids. But beyond that, having and income and more money in the bank makes me more comfortable. Thanks Dad.
