Sell Morgan Silver Dollars

Morgan dollars (1878–1904 and 1921) are the silver dollars we buy most. Common dates are worth more than their silver content in nice condition, and key dates such as the 1889-CC, 1893-CC, 1893-O, 1893-S, 1895-O and 1903-S, high-grade 1884-S and 1901 coins, and prooflike or deep mirror coins bring strong premiums. We buy Morgans one at a time or by the roll, raw or certified by PCGS, NGC or ANACS. Check dates and grades in our Morgan silver dollar price guide and our guide to rare Morgan silver dollars, then send us photos or a list.

Sell Peace Silver Dollars

Peace dollars (1921–1928 and 1934–1935) were the last 90% silver dollars struck for circulation. The 1921 high relief, the low-mintage 1928, and the 1934-S and 1927-S in higher grades are the dates collectors want most, and well-struck, lustrous coins of any date sell for more. Whether you have a single 1922 or a set in an album, we grade each coin and make a written offer on the whole group. For a quick look at what each type is worth, see our silver dollar price guide.

Sell Carson City and GSA Hoard Morgan Dollars

1878-CC GSA Hoard Morgan dollar in NGC holder with original certificate — we buy GSA CC Morgans

Carson City Morgan dollars (1878–1893) are popular for their low mintages and Wild West history, and we buy them in any grade. That includes GSA Hoard CC dollars, sold by the government in the 1970s and early 1980s in black boxes with a certificate, whether still in the original holder or certified by PCGS or NGC. Our Nevada rare coin buyers see them often, and we quote GSA soft packs from the other mints too.

Sell Early Silver Dollars: Flowing Hair, Draped Bust and Gobrecht

The first U.S. silver dollars are among the most valuable American coins. We buy Flowing Hair dollars (1794–1795), Draped Bust dollars (1795–1803, small eagle and heraldic eagle reverses) and Gobrecht dollars (1836–1839) in every grade, including worn, holed or repaired coins, which still have real collector value. Early dollars are best sold with expert help: we grade each coin, identify the variety and make an offer based on what it is worth to collectors. The Seated Liberty dollars that followed are covered in the next section, and our U.S. silver dollar information page explains every series from 1794 on.

Sell Trade and Seated Liberty Dollars

Seated Liberty dollars (1840–1873) had low mintages and were often melted, so they are scarce in any grade; the Carson City and San Francisco issues of the early 1870s are especially valuable. Trade dollars (1873–1885) were made for commerce in Asia and are slightly heavier than other silver dollars. Business strikes were made from 1873 to 1878, and many came back with Chinese merchants’ chopmarks, which we buy too. Proof Trade dollars from 1879 to 1885 are rarities. See how these series compare in our U.S. silver dollar values guide.

Sell Certified Coins (PCGS & NGC)

Morgan silver dollars in sealed third-party grading holders laid out on a dealer table

Silver dollars graded and sealed by PCGS or NGC sell on their certified grade, so a single point or a CAC sticker can change the price a lot. As an authorized PCGS, NGC and ANACS dealer, we verify each certification number and pay for the grade on the holder, not melt value. We buy certified Morgan and Peace dollars, Carson City and GSA coins in PCGS or NGC holders, early dollars, prooflike and deep mirror coins, and full registry sets, plus older generation holders. One slab or a complete collection, we make one written offer and pay by cash, check, ACH or wire. Learn more about how we buy PCGS, NGC and ANACS coins.

For a quote, use the form, text 720-600-4740 or email staff@americanrarities.com with photos of both sides of each holder.

Sell Silver Dollar Bags and Rolls

Have a lot of silver dollars? We buy rolls of 20, half bags of $500 face value and full bags of $1,000 face value (1,000 coins), whether they are original mint bags, mixed circulated Morgans and Peace dollars, or a hoard put away over many years. Before we make an offer we look through the coins for better dates and grades, so you are not paid only for silver weight. Learn how bags are valued on our silver dollar bag page. For large or heavy lots, we can meet you at your bank. Selling more than dollars? We also buy 90% silver coins and other U.S. silver coins, and we can buy a large coin collection in one transaction.

Selling Silver Dollars: Frequently Asked Questions

Do you buy single silver dollars or only large lots?

Both. We buy single Morgan, Peace, Seated Liberty, Trade and early dollars as well as rolls, bags and complete collections.

Do my silver dollars need to be graded before I sell?

No. Send photos or a list of raw coins and we grade them for you. Coins already certified by PCGS, NGC or ANACS are welcome too.

Should I keep the GSA box and certificate?

Yes. GSA Carson City dollars in their original box with the certificate are worth more than the same coin without them, so send everything together.

Should I clean my silver dollars before selling?

No. Cleaning leaves hairlines and removes original surfaces, which lowers collector value. Send them as they are.

How do I get paid when I sell silver dollars to American Rarities?

We pay you immediately by cash, check, ACH or wire once your coins arrive and are checked, or on the spot when we meet you at your bank.

How do I get a free appraisal?

Use the form on this page, text photos to 720-600-4740, or email staff@americanrarities.com. There is no obligation to sell.
