Not every coin collection is a hidden treasure, and understanding a coin’s true grade is a crucial part of the appraisal process. For many of our clients, the experience is just as valuable as the payout. Below is a letter from a client in Las Cruces, New Mexico, who shares what he learned during our evaluation and why he found the process to be a fair and positive one, even though the value was different than he initially expected.
I enjoyed your buyer’s visit and consider it an expensive (value paid one-half of what I expected) lesson in grading. I appreciate his patience in explaining PVC effects and the low end of things (culls).
I know your coin buyer had to move along, but my education would have been better if he had itemized the purchase by type of coin, rather than grouping them all together as cents, dimes, etc. Still satisfied with the sale.
Thanks,
Tom R.
