In the 1960s, a significant discovery of almost three million uncirculated Morgan Dollars was made in the vaults of the U.S. Treasury Building. A large portion of these coins were from the Carson City Mint. The General Services Administration (GSA) held public auctions to sell these “GSA Hoard” coins in the 1970s and 1980s.The coins can be in their original GSA mint packaging with box and papers, or they may have been certified by one of the major coin grading services.
